Snowfall at Cottonwood Pass - Shannon and Steve's Afternoon Drive (May 29, 2007)
 |
May 29, 2007 - My buddy Shannon and I both needed to get out
of our workplaces and we decided to do the drive to Cottonwood Pass.
Personally speaking, heading west to the pass is a great way to clear my mind and get the heck away for awhile! ;)
Dark clouds began to hover over the Collegiate Peaks as we departed from Buena Vista,
and I was hopeful there would be snowfall somewhere along the way. Small snow specks slowly
came down past the parking lot west of the Denny Creek Trailhead
parking lot and I quickly pulled out my camera to photograph it (top photo). It was tough to capture
the few snowflakes, but fortunately, it began snowing much harder for the entire time we were up there approximately
three miles east of Cottonwood Pass as seen in the middle and bottom photos.
Yippee! Snow is so awesome! :) |
 |
At Cottonwood Pass, the weather measured at 40 degrees,
which wasn't too bad considering snow was coming down. My face looks quite tan in that picture,
because I didn't use any sunscreenduring my round trip bike ride from St. Elmo to Hancock on Sunday. :p) |
|
Special thanks to Shannon for driving up there and
getting me out of my house for awhile! (Cool Hawaiian shirt!) |
 |
TOP: The standard view looking out west of the divide into Gunnison County.
BOTTOM: I did my best to zoom-in on a mountain background to show off some of the snow coming down. |
 |
On the eastern side of the divide, I snapped this very picturesque
top photo of snow covered mountains, snow in the foreground and snow pretty much everywhere.
Ah, but shortly after taking that photo, my foot sunk into the soft snow on this large
snowdrift I was standing on. It was not fun being that I was wearing sandles with no socks! :p) |
 |
Two more photos of the snow as we headed downhill
(east) from Cottonwood Pass. It was a fun and memorable adventure! :) |
