Visit To Cottnwood Pass, Colorado - June 27, 2008
|
I actually planned to visit friends in Buena Vista,
but both were unavailable for the evening.
Then, almost as if I was on automatic, I traveled up Chaffee County Road 306 enroute to
Cottonwood Pass. It was a nice and enjoyable evening drive after a hard day of work.
I walked up the hill above the parking lot. Do be careful around the edges (if you must go near them) and you
definitely do not want to walk on this snowy cornice area. |

Two views of the mountains looking toward the east.
TOP: Mt. Yale (left) and Turner Peak (right)
are the two prominent mountains out there.
BOTTOM: A closer view of Mt. Yale.
You can see my two hikes of Mt. Yale here if you're interested:

I wandered just a little bit and approached the small
tundra pool on the west (Gunnison County) side of the divide. The snow is slowly melting and the pool of
water is ever so slowly thawing out, but good grief, it sure is taking its time! :) |
|
A couple of nice photos of the wildflowers up there.
By the way, in other recent news, I hiked the
Poplar Gulch Trail near St. Elmo on Wednesday. Now that was a great hike! |
Photos Of The Sunset
I met a family, a group of six people with some visiting from Pennsylvania in the parking lot
They wanted to watch the sunset but needed to return back down to Buena Vista.
If any of those folks happen to visit this page, here is what the sunset looked like! |
Eh, it was a so-so sunset. I think my favorite of all-time may have been on August 11, 2007.
